Newton Primary School founded in 1860 as a designated church school. It moved to present site overlooking Bristol Channel in 1968. Surrounded by modern housing developments and maintains a large playing field. The school has two playgrounds and an adventure play area. The school is proud of achievements in sports and arts, with marked success in tennis, athletics, netball and swimming. Strong speech and drama club, choir and orchestra. Pupils perform regularly for the community and other extra-curricular activities include, bug club and astronomy club. Year 6 pupils undertake first-aid training and the whole school takes part in health and safety week. Fundraising for charities such as NSPCC, NCH action, Comic Relief, British Heart Foundation and RNIB. The school has parent association events and parents currently raising funds to provide ICT equipment and playground apparatus. The school aims to provide every pupil with the opportunity and experiences to develop to their full potential within a caring, supportive atmosphere.
